A report on a comprehensive webinar successfully hosted by IPMMA and Pharma Pro&Pack Expo
On 30th April, 2020, Indian Pharma Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (IPMMA) along with Messe Muenchen India – organiser of leading trade fairs Pharma Pro&Pack Expo conducted an extensive webinar focused on the pharma and pharma machinery sector.
The webinar was spearheaded by an esteemed set of panellist including Mr. Narasima Raju, Site Head (Quality), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories| Mr. Ashis Banerjee, CMD, Gansons Limited | Mr. Shankar Gupta, COO – ACG Engineering |Mr. Vishesh Parekh, Managing Director, INCOME | Mr. Shaunak Dave, CEO (Asia), Optel Group | Mr. R. Ramanathan, COO & Director, Parle Global Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and was moderated by Mr. Kaushik Desai (Advisor at IPMMA).
Our renowned speakers on the panel shared their perspective on how the pharma industry and machine manufacturers can work together to lessen the impact of COVID-19. The webinar was attended by over 500 attendees from different countries.
The panel began the webinar discussing the issues experienced by managing the complete operations of the company while working from home, like contacting the same team, organising the supply chain and logistics, etc. The pandemic has changed the future plans of all companies within a short time. The only way to survive is to be adaptable and to change rapidly in the given scenario.
The pharma manufacturing process has changed completely after the pandemic giving more importance to the safety of the manpower along with product safety. The pharma industry being very essential will revive and do better after the lockdown. People are now focussed towards a more sustainable lifestyle after the lockdown. During this time leveraging digitization is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
The extensive interactive discussion by the eminent panel to the questions put forth by the moderator Mr. Kaushik Desai, gave the attendees the much needed information and clarity in managing the challenges in current situation.
The webinar ended with a positive note with panellists responding to the questions from participants.
Mr. Narasima Raju explained that the production of medicine is a continuous process and working with minimum workforce meant adding shifts. Following the standard operating procedures is the key in ensuring the wellbeing of the employees and also making sure the production is on track.

Mr. Narasima Raju, Mr. R. Ramanathan and Mr. Ashis Banerjee pointed out that the solution to the issue of spare parts and technical support is stocking preferably OEM spare parts, use of virtual techniques for troubleshooting and also multi-lingual video manuals. Being prepared with the spare parts in stock is always a good idea to avoid any inconveniences.
Mr. Shaunak Dave, Mr. Shankar Gupta and Mr. Vishesh Parekh expressed their views on how the future of technical support in the current scenario of the pandemic and the lockdown is moving towards digitization. Whether it is through toll free phone calls, virtual remote tech support through augmented reality. Industry 4.0 plays an important role in enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, avoiding breakdowns, keeping few spare parts and avoiding inventory. Although the backend of the digitized method would eventually require human control.
